After building the model, the second part of the series covers the load analysis and the definition of the actions on the building, in accordance with NTC 2018.
The video is in Italian.
Permanent loads
The starting point is the self-weight. The structural self-weight comes directly from the weight of the steel (7,850 kg/m³). The non-structural permanent loads include the sandwich roof panels (15 daN/m²) and the wall system, given by the sandwich panels together with the contribution of the cladding rails (15 + 20 = 35 daN/m²).
Snow and wind
For the case study, located in Rome, the snow action and the wind action are determined according to the zoning in NTC 2018.
Wind is the most articulated part: the pressure depends on the exposure coefficient, which varies with height, and on the pressure coefficients, which differ between windward, leeward and side walls, and between the X and Y directions. For the case study this leads to a complete picture of the pressures on walls and roof, distinguished by face and by height.
Seismic action
Finally the seismic action, defined for the single-storey industrial building and combined with the other actions according to the combinations required by the code.
The care taken at this stage is what makes the model representative: an underestimated action, or a combination set up incompletely, carries through to all the subsequent verifications.
In the video, Ing. Basaglia shows the definition and application of all the actions on the case study.
